Governance and Knowledge Generation Socio-economic Evaluation of Maritime Activities. Mediterranean Regional Activity: Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia
With funding from World Bank/GEF and Plan Bleu, SES played the role of the environmental economist national expert for Lebanon for the project of Investigating the socio-economic dimension of maritime sectors in the Mediterranean basin. The scope of the project can be summarized as follows:
- Building on available knowledge and data (statistics, monitoring data, reports/studies…)
- Investigating the socio-economic importance of 7 maritime/coastal sectors in priority
o Fishing and marine aquaculture, Maritime transport, Cruising and pleasure boating, Coastal tourism, Energy production, Extraction of marine aggregates (aggregates, salt, fresh water via desalination...), Offshore oil and gas industry, sub-marine telecommunication and electric cables
- Illustrating the “costs of degradation” (No national assessment)
- Mobilizing knowledge from stakeholders and experts (workshops)
